Community Lakes Association Report for Lake Christopher (Bryant Pond) and Twitchell Pond 2016

posted Jun 19, 2017, 9:12 AM by Bob Switzer

Baseline water quality monitoring was conducted for Lake Christopher (Bryant) and Twitchell Pond, situated in the towns of Greenwood and Woodstock, Maine, in August 2016 by LWRMA Aquatic Biologists/Limnologists. Key indicators of lake water quality and overall lake health were measured and sampled, using methods and protocol for lake assessment established by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, the US EPA, and the Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program.

Overall, the two lakes experienced above average water quality in 2016, compared to historical averages for both waterbodies, based on the clarity of the water, and on the concentrations of the nutrient phosphorus and chlorophyll-a (an algal pigment) in water core samples taken at the deepest point (historical monitoring station) in the ponds over a 4-5 month period.
