New Milfoil Invasion

posted Aug 2, 2013, 11:21 AM by Bob Switzer

Milfoil has been found in the swampy pond area of Lake Christopher on the opposite side of Rowe Hill Road from the main lake.
This is after the outlet of Lake Christopher where the Little Androscoggin River goes under Rowe Hill Road.  On the other side of the road is a pond that is about 2 acres in size.  This April milfoil was reported in this pond.  When Jim Chandler checked it out, it was confirmed as variable leaf milfoil.  It looks like it has been there for several years and covers about 1 ½ acres of this pond.  Our plans are to put mats over the milfoil and we are gearing up to raise funds and make about 1 acre of mats to be used in this area. We will begin working on that this summer. Volunteers are needed to lend a hand by being a clam shell maker. Contact Jim Chandler.
